Same model. Different fee, different map.
HandIt runs the closest model to Bounty's — post a task, pick a neighbor, pay by card, money held until it's done. The real differences are the fee and where either app actually has people.
Side by side
How are Bounty and HandIt different?
The fee and the map. Bounty takes a 5% finder's fee from the hunter and adds nothing for the poster. HandIt takes 15% combined from both sides. Bounty is in the DMV, HandIt is in 178 cities, mostly in Europe. The mechanics are the same.
- Fee Bounty: a 5% finder's fee from the hunter, nothing added for the poster, no subscription. HandIt: 10% from the helper plus 5% from the buyer — 15% combined — with an optional Plus tier around €2.42/mo.
- Model Structurally the same on both: the poster sets the price, Stripe holds the money in escrow, payment releases on completion, and both sides leave a rating.
- Reach Bounty: Washington, DC and the surrounding DMV — ground floor. HandIt: 178 cities across 33 countries, concentrated in Europe.
- Proof HandIt: a 4.88 average rating with an established base. Bounty: 5.0 from 3 App Store ratings — small and new, and we're not pretending otherwise.
Questions people ask
How much does a $60 job cost in fees on each app?
On Bounty, $3: the hunter's 5% finder's fee. You pay $60, and the hunter takes home $57. On HandIt, the buyer's 5% is $3 and the helper's 10% is $6, so $9 in fees: the buyer pays $63, and the helper takes home $54. Neither app runs an hourly meter: on both, the poster sets one price up front, so those numbers hold however long the job takes.
On a $120 moving job, that's $6 in fees on Bounty against $18 on HandIt. $60 and $120 are the middle and top of the local ranges for furniture assembly and moving help. The rest are on what tasks cost.
Which app has people near me?
In Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland, Bounty. That's where every in-person bounty is today. HandIt lists 178 cities across 33 countries, concentrated in Europe, so check its city list for yours.
Online bounties on Bounty can be claimed from anywhere.
Is my money held the same way on both?
Yes. On both, the poster sets the price, Stripe holds the money, and payment releases when the work is done.
On Bounty specifically: the money is held from the moment you post, and only you can release it, by confirming the job in the app. Until you've chosen someone, you can cancel in the app and the full payment goes back to your card. If something isn't right, don't confirm, and use “Report a problem” in the app.
Who can claim my task on Bounty?
Anyone nearby who has signed up to take on tasks can offer, but nobody is assigned to you: you choose one person, then message them directly. Before you do, you can read their note and see how long they've been on Bounty and how many tasks they've completed.
Stripe checks a hunter's identity and bank details before they can cash out. That confirms who gets paid. It isn't a background check, so read their profile and choose for yourself.
Hunters nearby get an alert when a bounty is posted inside their radius, whether it was posted in the app or on this website. Your post only needs a street or neighborhood. Give the house number to the person you choose, in the app's messages.
Is a 5.0 rating from 3 reviews worth anything?
Not much on its own, and we won't pretend otherwise. HandIt's 4.88 comes from an established base. Bounty is new.
What you can check instead: every completed bounty is listed and linked on our homepage, and so far every bounty posted in the DMV has been claimed and completed. The four of us are on the about page, with names and photos.
What if nobody claims my task?
On Bounty, nobody is paid, and you can get all of it back. Until you've chosen someone, you can cancel in the app and the full payment goes back to your card. The reward can't be changed once it's paid, so to offer more, cancel and post again with a higher reward or more detail.
Does Bounty have a paid plan like HandIt Plus?
No. HandIt offers an optional Plus tier at around €2.42 a month. Bounty has no subscription of any kind: posting is free, there are no lead fees, and the hunter's 5% finder's fee is the only fee.
Rewards run from $5 to $10,000, and any legal task works. You can post from this website without an account. We email your sign-in link straight after.
Why pick one over the other
Should you use HandIt or Bounty?
HandIt is proof the model works. Bounty is the cheaper way to run it in the DMV.
Same escrow, same pay-on-completion, same "call a neighbor, not a company" pitch — HandIt is just further along, and mostly in Europe. If you're not in the DMV, HandIt's city list is worth a look.
If you are in the DMV, Bounty adds up to less: 5% total versus HandIt's 15% combined, and every dollar goes to a neighbor down the street instead of routing through a bigger network's fee.
